A
New York judge has deemed the internet downloads of music, royalty free music. For the hip hop community, royalty free music may come as a blow to some, but for most listeners this allows for a
greater ability to gain knowledge into the hip hop game. the ruling came after mush stipulation that internet music and free downloads violated the rights of performers as they were thought to be selling performances .
“The U.S. District Court in the Southern District of New York affirmed a lower court ruling that found that digital music and media downloads aren’t public performances. Because they aren’t public performances, they shouldn’t be subject to public performance license and royalty fees.â€
Will artists be losing money? The answer is yes, but will they gain greater visibility…yes. Since public performances are generally put through many processes to involving royalties for artists, performers expect to see money for all the music they produce.
Overall the ruling allows for listeners to get more music. There is no doubt companies will still charge for some downloads, this ruling will simply make it easier to get more of them. want music...you simply have to look.
